Scavenging...my middle name!

When you think of interior decorating, do you instantly picture a hefty price tag and expensive designer furniture? Well change your way of thinking immediately!

In the last twelve months I have had to furnish my entire apartment on a very little budget and while some big ticket items can't be avoided there are some areas where it is possible to skimp.

For me it's about mixing key store bought pieces with the softness and beauty of nature. I'm at the point now where I don't feel satisfied after a walk or swim if I haven't found something beautiful to take home and display.

A simple piece of drift wood on the mantle, a collection of shells in a bowl, fallen flowers on a coffee table book - all very effective and all free! Frame them if you think they will keep and hang it on your wall - easy!

Here are some of my recent finds...

The Wonders of Instagram

I love that within Instagram little communities are being created and friendships are being made across cities and countries - which otherwise wouldn't have formed. Today an innocent photo of three lengths of rope turned into a game with two complete strangers who I now feel like I can have a laugh with.

And laugh we did!

When I uploaded the photo of black, white and yellow rope which I had bought the day before, they both commented on how they too had posted photos with that colour scheme.
Let the chaos and giggles ensue! We decided to create a sequence of photos around this theme and did we ever!! Below are my contributions.

The funny thing is I am never normally drawn to these colours...but today they were my number one theme!!

Welcome!

Well...this is quite exciting - my very first blog post!!

I suppose I should introduce myself, My name is Emma and I am an interior, food and event stylist living and working in Perth Western Australia. Although I have lived here for a year now I still feel like a tourist in this city and there seems to be so much to explore and discover in this beautiful place. The landscape has been such a great inspiration to me here as it differs so greatly to the beaches and bushland of Sydney amongst which I grew. The sand is creamy white and the shrubbery lining the coast is a beautiful washed out silvery-grey. Oh, and the water! Crystal clear and turquoise. The soil inland is a rich red and the wildflowers in spring absolutely take my breath away.

Ever since I was young I have wanted to 'style' things. Whether I knew what it meant as a child or not...the passion was there. To 'beautify' the world. That's what I wanted to do. Just make the everyday drab rooms, objects, streets, gardens come to life and look the way I knew they could. Seeing the potential in things but never quite knowing what to do about it...that was my inner dilemma with each wind battered home or tattered sofa which caught my eye.

Now I feel like I have finally reached the point where I know what to do and here you will see the saga unfurl as I work my way from one project to the next. Sprucing, refurbing, decorating, crafting and styling my way through Perth.

Can't wait to share this journey with you all xx
